They say that life is like a novel; every day is a blank page to fill as best we can. As pages become chapters the plot twists and turns and the arc of the story reveals itself.
In September I will celebrate thirty years working in Higher Education. The HE sector has changed enormously over these decades and I have been fortunate to be able to experience it from a number of different perspectives. For the past three years I have been working as a freelance consultant, speaker and writer. It has been enormously enjoyable, varied and rewarding in many ways. The freelance life is unpredictable – that is both the best and worst thing about it. The next chapter of my story is also somewhat unexpected – because great opportunities often come when you least expect them.
At the end of August I shall be joining the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) as Executive Director: Regulation. I will be joining a fantastic team who are steering this unique institution through a period of great challenges and opportunities. I will experience HE from another perspective and, as this chapter unfolds, I will give what I can and seek to learn from every page.
