Organisations in the twenty-first century need a data strategy to set out how data will support the organisation and to articulate a vision and principles for the development of data activities. A data strategy should be integral to an organisation’s strategic plan.
The development of a data strategy should include an assessment of current capabilities and an analysis of drivers and demands for change. The process of developing a data strategy can itself be an opportunity to shift an organisation’s culture and thinking about the risks and opportunities offered by data in the twenty-first century.
